HSG includes an advanced power electronics system to control the frequency from the shaft generator.
Related switchboard receives a constant voltage and frequency with the correct phase angle to match the parallel operating diesel generators while flexible use of engine and propeller speed changes is facilitated, enabling both propeller and engine to be operated at their design points, maximising their efficiency and reducing CO2 and NOx emissions.
Shaft generators on ships are excited by the main engine to provide power to the grid. When the speed of the main engine changes, that is, when the ship moves at different speeds or when the propeller speed changes significantly in rough seas, the mains must be supplied with constant voltage and frequency by the shaft generator.
Benefits
- Up to 30% fuel expenses saving by reducing consumption
- Extending the assumed life of the motor/propeller
